Angkor Wat is probably one of the most visited places in the whole of Asia. It’s becoming more popular as years go by especially after it has been featured years ago in Tomb Raider (movie). It’s a popular destination in Siem Reap by holidaymakers, backpackers, history buffs, archaeology students and more. Seldom do most visitors know, Angkor Wat is just one of the temples that can be found in Angkor Archaeological Park. There are more temples that can be found in this 400 square kilometer complex.
Here are some of the temples that you can see in Angkor Archaeological Park:
Angkor Wat: Angkor Wat is the most popular temple in Angkor Archaeological Park and probably the most visited as well. It was first a Hindu temple which was later converted into a Buddhist temple and is recognized as the largest religious monument in the world. It’s usually visited during sunrise as Angkor Wat’s awe-inspiring beauty gets magnified by the rising sun as its background.
Ta Phrom: Ta Phrom would probably the next popular place visited in Angkor thanks to being feature in Angelina Jolie’s movie, Tomb Raider. The most distinctive part of the temple are the roots of the trees that are growing out of the ruins.
Bayon Temple: Bayon temple (located in Angkor Thom) is said to have been built in the late 12th or early 13th century featuring towers with massive stone faces. According to some scholars, the faces are representations of King Jayavarman VII himself. It’s definitely one of the most unique and beautiful ancient temples that you’ve got to see when you go to the Angkor Archaeological Park.
Terrace of the Elephants
Terrace of the Elephants: Terrace of the Elephants is also located in Angkor Thom and connected to the Palace of Phimeanakas. It’s said to have been used before as a stand for public ceremonies and also used as a base for the king’s grand audience hall.

Phimeanakas: Phimeanakas is connected to the Terrace of the Elephants and located inside the walled city of Angkor Thom.
